About East Cambs District Council

East Cambs District Council is one of the smallest district local authorities in the country and the smallest in Cambridgeshire, with a net budget of around £14m each year. East Cambs has just under 95,000 residents living in nearly 42,000 households.

The Council runs a number of services that it must run by law – collecting your recycling and waste, planning applications, licensing applications such as taxi and pub licensing, some environmental services such as building control and air quality monitoring, and housing.

The Council is also responsible for collecting Council Tax, although only around 8% of your payments come to the District Council. The main share of Council Tax goes to the County Council, with the rest going to the Parish or Town Councils, the Police and the Fire Authority.

The Council also chooses to do many other things to improve the lives of residents and to support businesses and attract visitors to our district – you can find out more about what we get up to on the rest of this website or visit the District’s Wikipedia page here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Cambridgeshire
