At the February budget setting meeting East Cambs District Council:
- Announced a £2m Growth & Infrastructure Fund for community facilities and projects – e.g. nature projects, village halls, open spaces + lots more!
- Froze the East Cambs element of Council Tax bills for the ninth year – I know it’s small money, but we are trying to help
- Announced new money for leisure centres and sports facilities
- Announced new money for community housing projects – helping communities that want to build houses reserved for their own people
This is on top of the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) (aka developer funds) already available. Since CIL came in we have:
- Spent over £10m on local infrastructure – e.g. leisure centres, recreation fields, country parks, village halls, GP Surgeries, car parks, youth centres, new roads, and cultural facilities like Ely Museum and the new Viva Mill in Soham
- Passported over £3.8m to Parish, Town and City Councils
The District Council has:
- A balanced budget for the next 2 years
- £0 external borrowing
- Low management costs
