The Swedish state is proposing to build 2 wind farms and battery storage compounds in East Cambridgeshire, extending into Norfolk and Suffolk.
They are MASSIVE – Redmere / Shippea Hill will be the largest onshore wind farm in England.
In total they will cover 8,352 acres, much of which is Grade 1 agricultural food production land. That’s enough land to feed the whole of East Cambridgeshire for over a year.
The turbines are over 3 times the height of Ely Cathedral.
Redmere Wind Farm at Shippea Hill:
– 5,881 acres (2,380 hectares)
– 32 turbines
– 220 metres tall
– Battery storage
– Generating up to 303MW
Around 6 miles away from RAF Lakenheath, 8 miles from RAF Mildenhall
Chatteris Wind Farm at Mepal:
– 2,471 acres (1,000 hectares)
– 15 turbines
– 220 metres tall
– Battery storage
– Generating capacity of up to 126MW
Next to the Ouse Washes, a SSSI, Ramsar site, Special Protection Area and Special Area of Conservation – one of the largest remaining areas of lowland wet grassland supporting Bewick’s, Whoopers and rare breeding waders.
East Cambs is already making a very substantial contribution to renewable energy generation – the most of any district in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
And permission has already been granted for Sunnica, one of the largest solar farms in Europe. Kingsway Solar are also expected to re-submit their application.
These wind farms are on Grade 1 agricultural land – they are in the WRONG location.
Help STOP the wind farms.
