Conservatives at East Cambs Launch New Grants for Local Projects

Communities across East Cambridgeshire are set to benefit from two new funding streams launched by the District Council’s Conservative administration.

The Local Infrastructure Fund and the Inclusive Play and Open Spaces Fund will open for applications on Monday 13th April, following approval by the Council’s Finance and Assets Committee.

These new funds have been introduced to ensure that investment keeps pace with growth, giving local communities improved access to Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding.  The Local Infrastructure Fund will provide thousands of pounds to support the delivery of essential infrastructure required as a direct result of development.  This includes projects such as new community centres, village halls, and multi-purpose sports and leisure facilities, as well as expanding existing provision to meet increasing demand.

Alongside this, the Inclusive Play and Open Spaces Fund will support the creation of accessible play areas, helping to ensure that playgrounds across East Cambridgeshire can be enjoyed by all children.

Projects seeking funding will need to demonstrate a clear link to supporting local growth, a commitment to achieving Net Zero Carbon, strong engagement with residents, and an environmentally responsible approach.

Cllr Alan Sharp, Chair of the Finance and Assets Committee, said: “These new funds reflect our commitment as a Conservative administration to back our growing communities with practical, accessible support.

“We have made it easier than ever for organisations to apply by simplifying the existing CIL criteria.

“By reducing match funding requirements from 50% to just 10%, we are opening the door to many more groups who previously may have been unable to access this support.

“We have also removed the minimum project cost for the Inclusive Play Fund, meaning smaller projects that can make a real difference to children and families across East Cambridgeshire are now eligible.

“The Committee was pleased to unanimously support these changes, and we strongly encourage local organisations and community groups to come forward with their ideas.”

Applications can be submitted at any time, with all funded projects required to be completed by March 2028.  Organisations will need to provide a completed application form along with supporting evidence.

Further information, including full eligibility criteria and details on how to apply, is available on the Council’s website.
